What is a Gratitude Body Scan Meditation?

A gratitude body scan meditation is a healing practice of bringing loving awareness to the body. As your attention slowly moves through each area, you are invited not to fix or judge anything, but simply to meet yourself with presence, compassion, and care.

This meditation also weaves in Ho'oponopono — the ancient Hawaiian practice of forgiveness, gratitude, and love — helping to soften self-criticism and nurture a deeper sense of appreciation for all your body carries and does for you each day. Research suggests practices like this can support both emotional wellbeing and physical health.

Best experienced in a quiet space where you can fully relax into the meditation.

In this guided Body Scan Meditation we bestow the amazing gift of gratitude upon our whole body to appreciate, nurture, restore and regenerate every cell of our being. This is more than a relaxation meditation, it offers an opportunity for healing on all levels.

There is much written about the impact of gratitude upon our mental and emotional health, but did you know that gratitude can be good for our physical health also?

“Studies have shown that being thankful can improve sleep, mood and immunity. Gratitude can also decrease depression, anxiety, difficulties with chronic pain and risk of disease.” Source: Can expressing gratitude improve your mental, physical health?

Expressing gratitude for our bodies does not come easy for many of us. We are programmed to criticise our imperfections: too fat, too thin, too wrinkly, too short, too tall, too old, greying and so forth. But how often do we stop to acknowledge what our bodies are doing for us each day? Sure, we may struggle with illness and aches and pains at times, yet our body does the best that it can. Just think for a moment about all that we put our bodies through, often with little or no appreciation! Each time we judge our body, we add greater weight to our own suffering.

Body Scan Meditation

Body Scan Meditation

In this body scan meditation we utilise the powerful transformative Ho’oponopono Mantra to shift from our habitual judgement and criticism of our body to truly appreciating all that it endures as it carries us through life.

Our bodies are by no means perfect, but in this guided meditation we shine the light into each part of our body to illuminate our inner perfection. Gratitude offers a pathway to healing on all levels.

“Gratitude…can be an incredibly powerful and invigorating experience,” says researcher Jeff Huffman. “There is growing evidence that being grateful may not only bring good feelings. It could lead to better health.”

This Gratitude Body Scan Meditation can be done each day and refreshed throughout the day as you move through your regular activities. A tremendous way to cultivate more gratitude in your life.

Gratitude Body Scan Meditation — Opening Excerpt

The following is an excerpt from the opening of this guided meditation.

Become aware of the breath. Not straining the breath in any way. Just breathing naturally and normally.

Follow the breath as you breathe in — all the way down and into your lungs, through the whole of your body. And as you breathe out, following the breath all the way back and out.

And then express gratitude for the air that you breathe. Gratitude that you are able to breathe.

See all of the air that you are breathing as tiny particles of light. And as you breathe in, these tiny particles of light fill the whole of your body — and each part of your body begins to sing with new life.

And then very gently, move your awareness down to your feet. Imagine yourself being inside your feet, observing the inner workings — all those tiny bones and muscles, all working together in complete harmony, to move you through life.

And we utilize the Ho'oponopono technique to release any tension held within the feet.

I'm sorry. Please forgive me. I love you. Thank you.

Forgiving ourselves for any misuse or neglect. Expressing true appreciation for the function that your feet fulfill in moving you through day to day life. Feel the flow of love penetrating deep within the feet.

Moving up through your body — allowing this energy of forgiveness, love, and gratitude to flow through your lower legs, all the way up and into the knees, the upper legs, the hips.

To experience the full gratitude body scan — moving through the back, abdomen, chest, heart, shoulders, arms, neck, and head — with Ho'oponopono woven through each area as a thread of forgiveness, love, and gratitude — press play above.
