Healing Tree Meditation

Guided imagery uses the imagination to promote healing in the body, mind and emotions. There will be several pauses of silence to contemplate the images.

Studies have shown that guided imagery works by bypassing the rational mind and speaking in metaphors and symbols to the subconscious mind which register in the cells. A good example of how imagery affects the body/mind system, is when we watch TV. There have been studies where people were hooked up to sensors to measure heart rate and blood pressure while watching TV and showed that violent images cause the blood pressure and heart rate to soar as if you were actually physically present in the scene. On a positive note imagining healing scenes gets serotonin flowing in the system, which alleviates discomfort and tension. The brain believes the images are real and responds in that manner. Imagery combined with hands on healing potentiate the effects and make them stronger.
